Prof. Rohit Mehtani has a PhD in International Studies in the area of Political Economy of International Trade and Economic Diplomacy and is a Fellow of the Institute of Directors. He has had the distinction of being a recipient of the prestigious British Chevening Scholarship of the UK Government which gave him an opportunity to study for Masters of Global Political Economy in the School of International Studies at the University of Hull in England and participating in a study tour to the European Institutions in Brussels at the time when economic and monetary union was in progress during the post-Maastricht period. He also pursued studies in International Trade at the Hull University Business School and Political Economy of European Integration at the Centre for the European Studies. He obtained a distinction in International Business Diplomacy. He also completed a Programme on International Negotiations at the Harvard Law School. His master’s degree in Britain is in conjunction with another Masters of Public Administration in which he majored in Applied Development Administration (Economic Administration).

Prof. Mehtani pursued a dual degree that included an M.S./M.Phil. in Consultancy Practice and Management at BITS Pilani and a Master's Degree in Business Administration (MBA Technology Management) from the Deakin University in Australia. The MBA Technology Management programme at the Deakin incorporated Australian Trade Commission endorsed course work in Asia Pacific International Marketing and Internal Business Strategy in which he obtained distinction.

Prof. Rohit Mehtani is also an alumnus of Indian Institute of Foreign Trade Delhi (IIFT Delhi) and Indian Institute of Management Calcutta (IIM Calcutta) form where he completed his Post-Graduate Programme in International Trade and a Post-Graduate Programme in International Business respectively. He received the N.V. Rangaswamy Gold Medal for 'Overseas Market Research' at IIFT and the Institute of Rail Transport (IRT) Medal for 'International Trade Logistics'. The IIM Calcutta Programme included one semester of studies and research in the People's Republic of China.

Prof. Rohit Mehtani graduated from University of Delhi with a Bachelor’s in Science from Hindu College and a Master's level Programme in Management from the National Productivity Council of India (Ministry of Industry, GOI). He was a rank holder in the NPC Programme. He is a Certified Productivity Practitioner, a Certification he obtained from NPC/APO Tokyo.

Areas of Interest / Specialization

Prof. Mehtani brings with him a unique blend of specialization in the area of International Trade, International Business, Global Political Economy,  Economic Diplomacy, International Law and International Negotiations. He has done extensive research in the area of trade diplomacy and the political economy of the European integration.

Work Experience

Prof. Mehtani has handled assignments with the corporate sector, industry associations, chambers of commerce, export promotion councils and premier business schools in India and abroad in various capacities at different times. Prior to coming to Indian Institute of Foreign Trade (IIFT), where he is presently working as a Professor and Consultant, he was Director of the Federation of Indian Export Organizations (FIEO). He has also held senior positions in domestic and international marketing in other previous assignments with the corporate sector 

Prof. Mehtani has actively engaged in trade and business diplomacy. He has the distinction of having been a part of the exporters' delegation that accompanied, the then Prime Minister of India, Mr. I. K. Gujaral, to South Africa in 1997. He was a part of the Indian delegation to the UN EDIFACT Meeting in Colombo in 1997. He recently participated in the India-European Union Summit in October 2012 in Brussels as a member of the Government of India's sponsored delegation.

Prof. Mehtani has done extensive research and market surveys in West Asia, North Africa, Europe, ASEAN Region, Hong Kong, People's Republic of China, and Taiwan.

He has been on the Governing Board of the Consultancy Development Centre (CDC), a body set up by the Department of Science and Industrial Research to promote technical and management consultancy in India.

At IIFT, he is a Professor of international business and related areas and a Consultant for corporate assignments and executive development programmes. Prof. Mehtani is also a visiting faculty to a number of prestigious institutions/universities in India and abroad.

He leads the 'Masters Programme in International Business' for the executives at the Institute and is a Programme Director of DoPT sponsored 'Programme on World Trade Organization and Trade Policy Related Issues' for the senior IAS officers and 'International Negotiations Programme' for the senior officers of the All India Services (IAS, IPS & IFS).  He is invited by 'Lal Bahadur Shashtri Academy of National Administration', Mussoorie, for sessions on Global Political Economy and Foreign Services Institute of the Ministry of External Affairs for Sessions on Economic and Trade Diplomacy.
