SCOPE, The Supply Chain & Operations Club at IIFT Kolkata

The Supply Chain and Operations Energy club (SCOPE) of IIFT Kolkata provides the right platform for aspiring students to develop an acumen in operations, which is becoming increasingly relevant to enhance international trade operations. The world is coming together digitally, making it impossible for any field to ignore the progress of IoT (Internet of Things), machine learning, and robotics. In this age of disruptive innovation, terms like reverse logistics, industry 4.0, and green logistics have gained prominence in the industry, owing to customer preferences. This poses a challenge to companies and start-ups, who are continuously evolving to inculcate their customers’ choices and tastes in their products and services. The emerging world of e-commerce, both in India and outside, revolves around this arena, requiring innovative solutions, but at the same time being conscious of their environmental impact. As far as India is concerned, FMCGs and e-commerce companies have made huge strides in this direction, trying to gain competitive advantage through their logistics and operations.
Overall, the following four domains are expected to gain immense importance in the near future - demand, production planning, logistics (customer satisfaction) management, and sustainable management. Each and every domain entails usage and awareness about the existing and upcoming technologies. Our activities throughout the year would help in building these skillsets.

Club Agenda

Our activities include:

1. Plant visits
Industrial visits to world-class facilities help students in understanding the practical problems, their associated solutions, and the best measures employed to resolve them. SCOPE will be organising industry/plant visits to renowned industries in the area.

2. Business summit (OperaTrade)
During Vivaan, the annual Business Summit of IIFT Kolkata, SCOPE organises OperaTrade in association with the BLASH club. We invite eminent leaders from the industry and the ministry to talk on the theme of the summit.

3. Simulation games with real-time data
Playing these simulation games helps students in visualising the various strategies that are employed to achieve the optimum result by reducing the logistics cost.

4. Live projects
Through live projects, we try to imbibe a culture of practical working and understanding of the concepts.

5. Guest Lecture (Tark Vitark)
We invite distinguished people in the Operations, logistics, and supply chain domain to speak about the upcoming trends and the best industrial practices in their respective fields.

6. Weekly dose of LOGon ka Gyan
Every week, SCOPE releases LOGon ka Gyan to help enthusiasts understand the terminologies associated with operations, supply chain, and energy.
